Big Dudes Bulletin Issue #002: Rampart, Big Bombs, and Big John’s Journey

What's up, weirdos?!
Welcome back to Volume 2 of Big Dude's Bulletin, where we talk discs, courses, questionable shot choices, and whatever else happens when a bunch of disc golfers decide walking up hills sounds like a good time.
This week we're talking about one of Colorado Springs' most loved and occasionally most frustrating courses...
Rampart Disc Golf Course
If you've never played Rampart, prepare yourself.
You're getting elevation. You're getting wind. You're getting beautiful mountain views. You're getting long walks between a few holes. And if you're not paying attention, you're probably getting a lost disc too. Rampart is known for using the terrain well, with a mix of bomber shots, technical lines, and plenty of opportunities to watch a perfectly good drive disappear into the brush.
The course sits inside Rampart Community Park and offers some of the best views in Colorado Springs. It's one of those places where you can throw a terrible shot and still stop to appreciate the scenery. The elevation changes make every hole feel different, and the wind can turn a great round into a humbling experience real quick.
A few of us hit Rampart recently and learned two important lessons:
- Bring water.
- Watch your disc all the way to the ground.
Trust us on that second one.
Wednesday Walks Are Still Rolling
Every Wednesday the crew meets up at Cottonwood Creek Disc Golf Course around 5:30 PM for our weekly Wednesday Walk.
No pressure.
No leagues.
No stress.
Just a bunch of weirdos throwing plastic, talking trash, helping each other improve, and having a good time.
And when the sun goes down?
Glow Golf starts immediately after.
Whether you've been playing ten years or ten days, come hang out. You'll fit right in.

Big John Spotlight
This week's spotlight goes to Big John.
John originally picked up disc golf for one simple reason:
He wanted to lose weight.
Fast forward to today, and he's already down 75 pounds.
Seventy-five.
That's not a typo.
What started as a way to get outside and move around turned into a passion for the sport, new friendships, and a healthier lifestyle.
One of the coolest things about disc golf is that it doesn't matter where you're starting from. You don't have to be a professional athlete. You don't need expensive equipment. You just need a few discs and the willingness to throw them into trees until you figure it out.
John is proof that this game can change lives.
We're proud of you dude.
Big John's Featured Discs
Oblivion
Sometimes a disc ends up in your bag simply because it's too cool not to throw.
That was the Oblivion for John.
With its reliable stability and consistent finish, it's become a trusted driver whenever he needs controlled distance and confidence off the tee.
The Salamander
The Salamander might have one of the coolest stamps we've seen in a while. The swirly blue plastic mixed with the bold salamander artwork makes this disc impossible to miss. John originally picked it up because it looked awesome, but it stayed in the bag because it flies just as good as it looks.
Stokely Finch First Run
The Finch has become a go-to option for controlled approaches and touch shots. If you're looking for something dependable when you need to park it near the basket, this one deserves a look.
Final Thoughts
Rampart reminded us why we love this sport.
The views are incredible.
The hikes are real.
The rough will absolutely steal a disc if you let it.
And every round creates another story worth telling.
We'll keep bringing you course reviews, disc highlights, bad decisions, great throws, and plenty of laughs in future issues.
This is only Volume 2, weirdos.
See you at Wednesday Walks.
And if you lose a disc at Rampart...
Well, maybe the mountain wanted it more than you did. 😎
